 There are two Chinatowns in Houston, the old Chinatown was on the east side an area now referred to as EaDo.  The second Chinatown is located in southwest Houston.  It is roughly centered at Fondren, Beechnut, State Highway 6, and Westpark. In addition to ethnic Chinese, there are numerous Filipino, Vietnamese, Malaysian, Korean, Cambodian, Thai second largest Asian population in the United States (Only Los Angeles has more) it is no wonder el wonderful eclectic array of restaurants with various Asian cuisines.
For some great bargain shopping, go to Harwin Drive. On Harwin Drive start off at Harwin Central Mart and then go next door to Harwin Discount Center. Restaurants, many good choices here. If you are a crawfish lover, then you must try Vietnamese crawfish.
