Chinatown Boston: Chinatown celebrates first Lantern Festival despite rain

Rain, lighting and thunder didn’t put a dent in Boston Chinatown’s first lantern festival on Sept. 6.
“Lanterns are used for celebration a lot in Chinese culture,” said Gilbert Ho, a board member of organizer Chinatown Main Street.
Visitors enjoyed food from venders, performances and the lighting of the lanterns. “In symbolizing the August Moon we thought it would be cool to have a lantern festival, have people come out and sell things and bring some traffic into Chinatown,” said Courtney Ho, executive director of Chinatown Main Street.
